Most companies, large or small, have a degree of ‘maverick spend’ where staff don’t follow defined procurement processes and purchase good and services from a supplier of their choosing.
Often this spend is claimed back through expenses. This can lead to a number of problems:
– lost insight on spend for analytics
– lost pre-agreed discounts with suppliers
– poor, or zero, contract compliance
– unauthorized supplier being used which could means the quality of the goods or service is poor and potentially not fit-for-purpose.
There is no reason why more than 90% of all spend shouldn’t be covered by a spend management system such as aXpire’s Resolvr.
However, any policy needs to be clearly communicated…and checks need to be put in place to detect any on-going maverick spend.
